Fall camping is upon us and while you are out camping with the bears, stay prepared with our quick first aid guide for some first aid emergencies that you may encounter while out in the wilderness!
Tick Bites
Snakebites
Spider Bites
Bee Stings
- Remove tick with tweezers
- Clean the area with soap and water
- Follow up with your healthcare provider if you suspect symptoms of Lyme Disease
- Wash bit area
- Do not suck out venom
- Look out for severe symptoms
- If severe symptoms occur, get help
- Clean area with soap and water
- If severe reaction occurs, call 911
- Remove stinger
- Wash area with soap and water
- Cover area with adhesive bandage
- Apply ice
- Keep an eye out for an allergic reaction
Frostbite
Hypothermia
Heat Exhaustion
Heat Stroke
- Remove wet clothing
- Put cloth between fingers and toes to preventing freezing together
- Cover affected area with a clean towel
- Get further medical assistance
- Call 911
- Remove wet, cold clothing
- Warm the victim with blankets and warm clothing
- Be prepared to give CPR if person stops breathing
- Symptoms include: Sweating & dizziness
- Give fluids
- Sponge body with wet cloth
- Symptoms include: Sweating stops & skin is very hot to the touch
- Call 911
- Immerse person in cold water
- Or cover victim with a sheet and pour water over the sheet and fan the victim until help arrives
